Marvel’s “Blade” Loses Its Director

Filmmaker Bassam Tariq (“Mogul Mowgli”) has dropped out of directing the “Blade” film at Marvel Studios.
The project has been getting ready to kick off filming this November in Atlanta and it’s unclear how his departure will impact the production start of the vampire action thriller.
Oscar winner Mahershala Ali steps into the role of the half-immortal vampire hunting ‘Daywalker’ previously made famous by the Wesley Snipes-led trilogy.
In a statement, Marvel says: “Due to continued shifts in our production schedule, Bassam is no longer moving forward as director of Blade but will remain an executive producer on the film. We appreciate Bassam’s talent and all the work he’s done getting Blade to where it is.”
The studio is reportedly already in search mode for a new director. The project has seen several rewrites over time with “Star Trek: Strange New Worlds,” “The Witcher,” and “Moon Knight” scribe Beau DeMayo serving as the current writer.
Delroy Lindo and Aaron Pierre co-star in “Blade” which currently remains on track for a November 3rd 2023 release.
